Step 1
Three delivery men in overalls each carry a television in their arms. These giants, 2.25m tall, roam through the public, lugging their enormous TVs as best they can. They attract attention by their sight and sound, leaving us no choice but to stand agape, question ourselves and especially wonder what will ever happen next .
Step 2
Suddenly, our delivery men take a break, worn out , permitting the TV screens to reveal three presenters in suits worthy of the 9 O’Clock News. The illusion is thus created of an improbable pair ; the carrier and the carried, defying the laws of physics with their impossible balancing act. The presenters want to present, the deliverers want to deliver (unless it’s the opposite) and the public is a captive witness to the strange scene. It’s funny, dramatic, efficient, spectacular and sometimes difficult to understand: without a doubt, that’s telly !
Step 3
The delivery men are at rest, the TVs are delivered to the public. Title sequence. Start of programmes. Impossible interviews give their place to mini cabaret scenes, where the presenters (who constantly mix up their names) each become actor, puppeteer, magician, salesmen or even variety singers for ladies. Thanks to ready-engineered sound and the interactions with the public, we forget telly-reality for an instant and touch the reality of the television. The TV is in the street : we can laugh at it, answer back, avenge ourselves, thank it for a few evenings of light entertainment, or at least watch it a while without being taken in. Unless, for once, it’s the telly who’s watching us !?
